WHAT WE OFFER
LITERACY TUTORING
Our 1 to 1 lessons in Literacy aim to grow our pupils knowledge of phonics whilst developing their memory, handwriting, problem solving, reading skills and writing. Your childs level will determine the starting point of their learning. We will take things at their pace, moving quicker where appropriate or revising learning several times if needed. We use a programme of learning called The Hickey Multi Sensory Language Programme as well as other resources: such as Toe-by-Toe and Alpha to Omega.
Lessons are informal and provide a chance for pupils to relax and learn in a non-stressful environment, where they are free to ask questions, talk to us and develop their confidence and ability to communicate with others.
MATHS TUTORING
Our 1 to 1 lessons in Maths aim to grow our pupils knowledge of number whilst developing their understanding, memory, problem solving and mastering both new and old skills. Lessons depend on our pupils level but will, for example, start with basic number counting, adding forwards and backwards, 2 more, 2 less etc. We aim to develop their knowledge of number systems, simple facts and using strategies that will help them with their maths learning in and out of school. If necessary we will use concrete materials such as Numicon, Base Ten Rods, counters and Dice. To make sure that work has been secured and retained it will often be repeated and, if needed, taught in different ways.
We use several teaching resource maths books and extensive maths games and problem solving challenges.
